The Cards
"Well, for heaven's sake," Lady Mystery muttered, putting another clarifier on the querent card. "What a hot mess." "Uh ... is it good? Is it bad?" her client asked, visibly nervous. "It's unintelligible is what it is; very annoying," Lady Mystery huffed. "Let me just do this ... " She quickly removed a section of cards from the Tarot spread and dealt them again (quickly and with great flourish). "I thought ... well, I thought the cards don't lie," the client whispered, tense, pointing to the placard in the corner that proudly proclaimed: "The Cards Don't Lie". "They don't, dear," Lady Mystery responded with a smile (as she read the new formation), "but, sometimes, they underachieve and need a swift kick in the ass." The client disguised a tiny laugh as a cough, thinking it a poor idea to laugh openly at Fate.
