Stars

Abigail wished upon the stars, pouring every droplet of worry for the world out of her 8-year-old heart. The next day, Earth was invaded. It was a "cosmic renovation" staged and launched by a cooperative force, designed to return the planet to an almost pristine condition and correct what felt like an infinite number of infrastructure problems. At 27, Abigail wished again, lonely and tired, and ended up discovering a wounded revolutionary in her parents' garden shed and secretly nursing him back to health (which proved itself to be the gateway drug for a life of danger and intrigue). At 74, Abigail turned her face to the sky and smiled, but didn't say a thing. She'd call for a ride when she was ready to go, but not get the stars involved further. She was grateful to find they were actually listening, but they were literal as all hell and a little trigger-happy.
