DIARY PAGES: Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell)
I am no prophet; I do not write such things because I have seen the future and feel a duty to warn. And I am no fearmonger, inciting terror for terror's sake to make plain the cost of ignorance and complacency (although I believe the cost to be high).
I write such things to force my conscience to the mirror to behold its truth: that I long to sit in the lap of luxury unburdened by every worldly care as much as anyone. How sweet our childhood lies that we are safe and protected by our potential; how cold the hand that reaches to take all that we have and more.
