The trees saw and heard it all (through the windows and out-of-doors): the pie eaten for breakfast, then the prattling on about dieting; the sweater pulled out of the wash pile to see if it could be worn again, then the harsh judgment passed on everyone else's outfit; the oath taken to make more and give humbly, then the delirious spending with panicked math afterwards. The trees were, predictably and understandably, amused and horrified (sometimes both at the same time); it was Black Friday for them also, but mostly for the sense of doom and not the shopping.
