Sampler

For her birthday, a friend had given Imogene an embroidery sample shaped in letters that spelled out, "You can rest when you're dead." Appreciative for the gift, but unsure about messaging, she worked carefully to update the pattern on the back of the original and apply the same stitch legend. It took ages to finish but, when mounted and framed, Imogene felt immeasurable satisfaction. With great pride, she hung a meticulously executed, "If the dead would only rest ... " in her living room above the sofa.
