Cupboards

"Don't go into the cupboards without me," she said, very matter-of-factly. "One leads to Narnia and one ... well ..." "Just show me which one is the good one," he griped, but she shook her head. "Let's always go together!" she countered. "That way, we'll never be alone and we'll always be safe." He narrowed his eyes. "I don't need you; I'll figure it out for myself!" he blasted. "You're ridiculous; it can't be that hard." He stomped out as she whispered, "But they can change locations - switch and switch back; if you don't know what to look for ... " She sat in the rocking chair and thought for a bit afterwards, at the point where the pressure to be a good person and the exhaustion of saving him from himself came together. She heard a creak - a cupboard door opening in a room down the hall. Maybe this was the time she just let it all go down.
